Avatar = Awesome

Okay, I am decidedly a huge fan of Avatar. The story isn't very original at all (when I first saw the trailer many moons ago, I could guess what the core of the story was going to be about and was totally right). However, you can't help but become lost in the world that James Cameron has created. I loved learning seeing the different flora, I loved ( Read more... )

Awesomeness seconded! neko4 January 19 2010, 02:50:09 UTC
I saw it for the first time on Friday (in IMAX and 3D, both of which I recommend if you didn't see it that way and can-- when he's talking about his dreams at the beginning, I really felt like I was flying).

Re: the extended sex scene-- there's actually a site (here) which has all the bits of script that were cut from the final release. (The site kind of blows things out of proportion for the sake of salaciousness, IMO, but anyway.) I was honestly kind of disappointed that we didn't get a better explanation/exploration of what it would be like to experience the bond with another sentient being; while I agree that that scene is not really necessary to the story, I still think it's a really romantic idea.

As for changing the gene pool, yeah-- I've been wondering with a friend of mine exactly how the NA'Vi reproduce; hooray, science. Although I so didn't notice the finger-number thing, either.

i totally didn't notice the fingers/eyebrows thing, either! wah, things to look for second time around. ♥ grace looked totally more human than the others, imo. but my sister was all, "it's because hers was the prototype." xD god knows.

the little helicopter lizards were possibly my favourite. ♥ seriously, the film won on detail and the sheer depth and breadth of pandora. amazing. *__________* even if "unobtainium" still cracks me up. xD

Haha, apparently unobtainium is some NASA term or something ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium )

And that was what I thought... maybe Grace's was the first one and they hadn't perfected combining human/Na'vi DNA yet. Or... they just thought that Sigourney Weaver looks better more human than Na'vi :p

The helicopter lizards were cute. I really liked Eywa's seeds... cute little puffy jelly fish.
