Final Fantasy XIII

I got to play a bit of it.

-A bit refreshing that the cold soldier type is a woman.

-Vanille is your stereotypical happy-go-lucky, medic-type girl, but her weapon is pretty fucking awesome. It's a staff-type thing with antlers (her first weapon anyway), and instead of running up to an enemy to knock at them, the antlers fly off on strings to hit enemies. ...That's pretty clever and surprising.

-I HATE the camera in this game. It's too floaty and very slow to turn. Plus, it feels like I'm always fighting with it. Very, very bad camera >_<

-Vanille and Lightning's sister, Serah, look way too similar.

-Hope. LOL. What a pussy. However, it's cute to see him clinging to Vanille like 90% of the time. I also like that he's a medic/mage-type as well. Then again, young boys as mage types aren't uncommon (Leon from Star Ocean 2, Genis from Tales of Symphonia) but still fun to see. Even if he is a pussy and is slightly stupid (re: Snow).

-Snow. Damn, he's pretty good with his fists, and I like his grenade attack. I guess he's sort of Lightning's foil-- a bit impulsive, passionate, freaking LOUD (my god, he probably woke everything up in that place where you find Serah). And I hated it when his group called themselves heroes. A bit arrogant, huh? But maybe that's the point.

-I liked how the game kinda thrusts you in the middle of things and you have no clue why everyone's fighting. I'm pretty sure youc an figure out what the World's story is from the dialogue, but it's a good idea to read the data logs in the menu to get a better idea of what's going on/what everything is.

-I haven't played ff12, but it looks like they're using the same Grid Sphere-type leveling system from FF10. I guess I don't mind it, but I hate how the grid is 3-D and not a flat board like FF10. It just makes it harder to see the overall board.

-Battle system is pretty interesting so far, and feels very fast-paced. However, I kind of don't like how you can't control your other party members (Kingdom Hearts, Persona 3), but I'll deal. I just feel like I'm misisng out on using interesting abilities if I just leave it up to the AI. I haven't decided if I wanted to stick with Lightning yet as party leader (can I even change party leader?). And gah, only 3 people can be active in your party. I think I'm just used to having 5 party members in Persona >_>. And while it's not new that there are more people than you can really use at a time, I feel kind of annoyed. Usually, I wouldn't mind leaving some character on the wayside (*cough* Cait Sith, Aeris, Eiko, Lulu *cough*), so far, I do want to use everyone in FF13. Although... Sazh is kinda crappy with his guns. However, I do like him as a character-- he's pretty awesome and I'm happy he doesn't look ANYTHING like everyone else (facial structure, etc).

-Nomura is a good artist for sure, but it sucks how everyone just looks the same. What happened? I mean, FF7 was fine, but FF8 and on... everyone's a clone of each other. How is it that most other artists can have different looking lead characters but not this guy? FF needs a new art director.
