Miserable party games for fun and profit

Been googling around for creative games for 8-year-olds, and mostly finding loud, running-and-yelling party games. And then there's this:
Whipped Cream Round The WorldHave children stand in one line. Two plates of whipped cream are passed from each player along the line whilst players are dancing to the music. When the music stops, the player must ( Read more... )

If they're not already into Pokémon, the theme decks are a good entry point to the trading card game.

When I was that age, I played board games and card games at every opportunity. Crazy Eights!

That does not sound even remotely like a fun game. For anyone.

At that age the "stick your hand in a box of something and try to identify it" game was usually good. Still messy, but more contained.

I remember when Flash Gordon played that with Prince Barin on Arboria: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/mv-D5ayq/flash_gordon_film_the_wood_beast/

I know this one, Reverend Mother Mohiam! It's "Searing Pain!"

They should call this game "Hazing Ritual for People With Servants."

Seriously. I can see a you-style short film where the adults line up the kids and start the game, and Our Awkward POV Protagonist is the first one "out," and reluctantly smears whipped cream all over his/her face. Whereupon all the other children declare this is gross and they aren't participating, and one kid is left covered in gross while everyone else runs off to play.

Believe it or not they take reallllly well to Werewolf. My son is eight and I've played it with them at cub scouts a few times. I also brought it in as the Halloween party for his class and when I came back for the Christmas and valentines parties, both times I was mobbed by children screaming 'ARE WE GOING TO PLAY THAT GAME AGAIN?!' They aren't great at the subtle nuances of the game, lol, but it's a great intro to further gaming I think.

Huh. It'd definitely be interesting to see a bunch of eight-year-olds go at this, though in our case we only have two kids, and the eight-year-old may well be too hyper for anything this involved. But somewhere down the road, I definitely need to introduce him and his friends to it.

If / when you do just make sure you have low expectations, lol! There will likely be lots of peeking and shrieking but every group of kids I've played it with has loved it. It also lends itself well to adaptation for 'themed' parties. Our Cub Scout camp was spy-themed so instead of werewolves there were spies, and the seer was an FBI agent who received special intel each round. And for a Scooby Doo themed party we played 'Scooby Doo vs the werewolf', where everyone was a member of the Scooby gang instead of a villager. There was only one Velma - the 'seer' - and she got an extra clue each round.

I think the whipped cream game falls into the category of "I'm not cleaning that up." ;)
