What will day two of our NYC transit strike cost me? I came home last night rather then stay with my brother because I HAD to get some stuff done around the apartment before Canary gets here tomorrow morning. When I got to work yesterday things were pretty quiet. I will try to trudge back into the office again today and hope that I can catch a cab ( Read more... )

I dunno where you live and I only have a vague idea where the office is, but there are some options to get around. For instance (and I know this one doesn't help you) PATH are running special service from 33rd street to the WTC, which gets people from Penn Station to within 12 blocks of our office.

The articles on the web are saying cabbies are only charging people like $10 a ride!! I think you got taken advantage of!

" During the strike, cars entering Manhattan below 96th Street between 5 and 11 a.m. have to carry at least four passengers. During this time, taxis will be allowed to pick up multiple fares, and cabbies can charge each passenger a flat fee of $10, plus $5 for every additional transit zone they pass through. Normally, the fare is $2.50 plus mileage. "

no they are charging by a zone system and I live 4 zones from work...in fact one cab driver I had last night gave me a deal by putting on the meter and letting me pay that way...I live a long way from work!

holy crap! 4 zones... thaty IS quite a ways...

hmm.. you know.. I used to do hotshot type delivery ( where we got paid for delivery based on a flat rate plus zones... ) Have you thought about calling the local delivery services... maybe some of the drivers would be willing to pick up a passanger ( instead of a package ) and "deliver" you to work for a cheaper rate...

just a thought...

especially when cabs are hard to come by...

Yuck!! I feel so bad for all y'all in New York!!! Makes my stop and jerk start Metro ride on Sunday seem not so bad. I hope it gets over with soon.

I know you've got a ton of people on your f-list, and I'm merely a lowly listener (who loves your advice on meeting girls though...the just talk to someone thing...though I've yet to try it out), but your book was my 50th this year. My post about it is here if you're interested.

You ROCK!!! *hugs*
