And of Happy Families

Rory sat on the floor of the room he and Emily had decided on as a nursery and he puzzled over the directions for the crib they had picked from Ikea. He looked at the bits and pieces spread across the floor and sighed. He would have asked his Dad to help, but Brian was currently somewhere in Patagonia.

Emily had just arrived home from school, and walked to the nursery. When she saw the crib wasm't finished yet, she sighed. It was hard enough getting the rest of the nursery together. Their poor child would be forced to sleep on the floor at this rate. "No luck yet?" she asked.

Rory sighed. "I'm not sure if part B is supposed to go with part T or part J," he said, looking up at her. "How was school?"

"They should color code their stuff," Emily said before she moved over to sit next to him. "It was fine. Mostly lectures today. And how was your day?"

Rory sighed looking at the mess spread around him. "Like this, but I did get the changing table together," he said, nodding to the only piece of furniture in the room.

Emily grinned at River's offer to babysit for them. They could use all the help they could get, especially with her schedule. "Thank you, River. That's sweet of you," she said before shaking her head. "We really haven't talked about it yet. We'e thrown around a few names, though. I'm hoping for somethin' traditional and nt weird like...Apple."

Rory pulled a face at that. "I know you want weird, but really? Fruit?" he asked, pouring them all a cup of tea.

"I'm sure the Doctor would love to babysit. He speaks baby, you know," River tosses out there. And then she frowns slightly at Rory, because it hadn't even crossed her mind that maybe after what had happened to Amy Rory wouldn't be on good terms with him. It had taken River some time herself to get back into the groove of things with him. She had no real idea if Rory still saw the Doctor at all, or what Emily knew there. But maybe those were questions for another day.

River accepts a cup of tea. "Apple's not so bad, really. Could be worse." Then again her name was River, soo... moot point, perhaps. "Do you have any idea what the gender is yet?"

"I said I didn't want to name it Apple, Rory," Emily said.

When River mentioned the Doctor, Emily cleared her throat and looked over at the other woman. "He won't take it with him on the TARDIS, would he?" she asked. Ever since Rory had told her what had happened when Amy was pregnant, she'd been hoping the Doctor would stay away. It was something she wasn't going to say out loud, though, since it seemed he meant a great deal to both River and Rory.

Emily took her cup of tea andante shook her head. "Not yet. I think we can during our next appointment, though."
