It's been so long since I posted fic that I forgot how to format it. Also, what the fuck, I can't believe I just had to go in and REFORMAT this whole thing. Oh my god I really hope this doesn't offend you, but I recall you saying you're from Melbourne (you are corcordium on tumblr, right? if not, just kill me please) and I had a question about it, if that okay? I've never been to Australia (some day!), but I'm sure there's a certain amount of regionalism for these things and I just wondered if you knew what type of food might have been served in like shitty diner-ish type places in Melbourne in the WWII era? My face is on fire, that's how embarrassed I am that I'm asking this question.

Oooh shitty diner-esque food eh? HMMM I'm not sure TBH, but I'd say it'd be pretty similar to what the British had? So um lots of tea, not coffee, err meat and potatoes. But of course there were also migrants from Greece/Italy/China/Vietnam who came to Victoria for the gold rush, and Jews fleeing Eastern Europe, so there were also lots of communities of those migrants who would serve their type of food for each other.

However, hit up futureperfect for more info! She is also from Melbourne and a good friend of mine who knows SHITLOADS about war and Australian soldiers, and would probably be able to answer your question much better than me. She also has this post where she scanned a guidebook American soldiers got upon arrival in Australia during WWII, and it's got a lot of info about the kind of food they ate back then. I hope that helped! :D

In addition to the hotness factor, I absolutely loved the dialogue and how damned plausible it all felt. Characterization was all around spot-on, and I also really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of your writing. And this:

“We did miss you though. Sometimes I’d catch myself feeling a spark of hope and I’d think, god if only Lucky were here to bring me down.”

-basically sums up everything I love about Hoosier and Leckie/Hoosier. Wonderful.
