Let's Dance

Raye yawned against her hand. She'd stayed out too late, running errands on a school night, and she was more than ready to go home and take a hot bath before crashing into bed. Her grandpa was probably sound asleep already by now, and she was pretty sure the new guy at the temple had similarly crashed. And that was good. She suspected that ( Read more... )

[OOC: Younger Harry, ahoy!]Harry glanced at the clock on his desk as he hunched over his homework for the day. Not the mundane kind by any stretch, but a page full of magical power calculations. It was late, the best time to work on them in the relative peace and quiet of the temple where he'd been sent to learn a few tricks to better control his control over magic. The old man who ran the temple had gone to bed long ago, but the girl who worked there had been out all night and it sent a pang of worry through his head ( ... )

Raye paused, frowning. If she was surprised or nervous, it didn't show. Two guys? If they tried anything funny, she'd make them sorry. She'd fought the Negaverse, a couple of cocky punks were nothing.

"Don't you have anything better to do at this time of night?" Raye said waspishly. There was no mistaking what they were doing, loitering around the temple and eyeing her with those stupid smiles, and she wasn't going to give them the benefit of the doubt anyway. She was tired, she was cranky, and she wasn't going to put up with these smug jerks a second longer than she had to.

She just hoped she didn't wind up waking her grandfather, he needed his rest at his age.

This was one case where Raye's snappish demeanor wasn't going to get her anywhere. The group of four continued to close in on her, grinning at her.

"Sure we do," the leader of the gang said as they closed on her, "how about you help us out with that?"

As if on a signal, all of them rushed her together, grabbing at her arms while the ones behind her tried to get ahold of her to cover her mouth to stop her from screaming.

--Wait, four?!

So they'd been planning this, had they? Raye's irritation burst into anger. She was furious, particularly at how the two who'd rushed in behind her had managed to track her this far without drawing her attention.

She knew she needed to get her back against the wall, but there wasn't any time before they were on her. She blinked in shock as a rough hand managed to clap over her mouth, but she didn't scream. She was too mad for that.

As they grappled for her arms, she retaliated with her feet, stamping her heel down on the first sneaker-clad toe she could find, before lashing out with a fierce kick from her other leg. They were not going to get away with this!

Kid had a book in hand and a few others tucked under his arm as he walked. There'd been a recent increase in kishin egg activity in the area, so he'd been sent to take care of things. He'd be there for another two weeks to make sure things had quieted down before heading back to Death City for his next mission for his father.

Raye halted swiftly, and ducked behind a stone wall when she saw Kid appear, crossing the street. There he was, that weird guy! She pressed her back into the wall, chancing a peek around the corner. He seemed pretty absorbed in his reading, so she was sure he hadn't spotted her. What was he up to at this time of night?

She knew she needed to follow him. Even if walking and reading wasn't too suspicious, maybe she could find out where he lived, and pick up a few more clues. It would be nice to know if the Sailor Scouts had a new enemy or ally at hand.

Silently she watched until he'd gained a reasonable distance, and then she began to sneak after him, scuttling from wall to bush to wall to hedge.

~Now I'll see what you're really up to,~ she thought, frowning.

Kid's Soul Perception picked up the new soul following him. He paused and looked around, trying to see where they were. However, no one was immediately noticeable.

Fine. They wanted to follow? He had nothing to hide.

He resumed walking, looking back down at his book but not reading the words on the page. Instead, he paid close attention to his Soul Perception.

When he paused, Raye hid, crouching behind a parked car and hugging her shoulders to make herself as small as possible. Did he suspect? Possibly. Nonetheless, she wasn't about to lose him now, and when his footsteps started up again, she waited a few moments before peeking out from her hiding spot. His back was turned, and his attention was back on his book. She waited for him to turn a page before she could be sure he was actually reading it, and then she resumed her stealthy stalking. If she'd known his spiritual senses were ten times stronger than hers, she might have thrown in the towel. Ignorance bred optimism, however, and she was sure he hadn't noticed her yet.
