"But, mum..." Severus said when his mother placed a robe on top of his trunk. It was patched up and looked suspiciously like one of his father's old suits.
Eileen Snape gave her son a strained smile. "You'll look very good."
"But this year there's the Yule Ball. With this robe I'll be the laughing-stock."
She sighed. "You know I wish I could buy you dress robes."
He nodded, but his eyes started to fill with tears.
"What is it?"
He sniffled. "Lily... she'll shun me..."
Eileen pulled him into a hug. "No one's ever going to shun you."
