Aurora Sinistra froze at the door to the Astronomy Tower, bitterness etched into a grimace on her winter pale face.
Severus Snape stood at the parapet, statue still but for the dervish dance of his robes.
As she back-pedalled, her telescope’s tripod scraped traitorously across stone, screeching.
He whipped around, breath freezing white on the air.
"Aurora … I'm-"
"Save your breath," she snarled.
The door slammed behind her. Strains of music whipped around him, carried on the icy wind from Hogsmeade’s wood nymph choir.
‘And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said.’
