“Lily!” James shook her shoulder gently; she’d fallen asleep on the sofa near the Christmas tree. “Why didn’t you meet me?”
“What?”
“The note! I wanted you to meet me in Diagon Alley.”
“Oh! I couldn’t decipher it; I’d need a syllabary to decipher your handwriting, James.”
James knelt on the floor and pulled a red velvet box from his robe’s pocket. “I had to pick this out alone. I hope you like it. It’s…in honour of our little Gryffindor.” He laid his hand on her stomach. “Happy Christmas.”
Lily opened it to find a ruby and topaz bracelet inside.
