Pansy angrily searched for answers in her fiancé's grey gaze. Her arrant fury might've sparked the summer gale raging out-of-doors.
"You promised never to cast a Dark Spell again, Draco." She hoped he'd refute her accusation.
"I-" He choked. "Pansy, I had no choice."
"You always have a choice, Draco, and you didn't choose me," she spat, each word becoming more high-pitched.
"This can't be the end, Pansy."
In response, Pansy slipped his emerald-encrusted heirloom from her finger and turned away as hot, rueful tears poured down her delicate cheeks.
Outside, the harsh wind gave way to sorrowful rain.
Author's Notes: One theory as to why Draco ends up with the unknown witch Astoria Greengrass.
Draco and Pansy probably had significant betrothal enchantments in place, but I can't imagine they'd keep them bound to one another with a betrayal such as the one Draco's committed. We can only hope that Draco learned from the consequences of his earlier folly and has ceased to practice Dark Magic.
