Challenge Twenty: The Wizards of Summer - Drabbles
Title: Between Loving and Fighting
Author: irespressogirl
Wizard/Witch: Arthur Weasley/Molly Prewett Weasley
Rating/Warnings: G/PG
Prompt: 9 - dancing
Theme: Difficult Decisions

When the Wizarding Wireless announced the disappearance of another wizard, the dishes, which were magically washing themselves, clattered to the sink's bottom.

Molly leaned against the counter to keep from falling. "I can't, Arthur -- you can't!" Her desperate words came in gasps, and tears seemed to prevent her breathing properly. "I -- the boys -- we can't live without you."

Arthur gathered his precious wife to himself as tears clouded his vision.

"Shh, my Mollywobbles," Arthur whispered soothingly into her hair. "I won't join."

Celestina Warbeck's new summer hit replaced the newscast, but Arthur didn't feel like dancing -- nobody did these days.

Author's Notes: Molly's brothers, Fabian and Gideon Prewett -- who were reckoned to be among the best wizards of their day -- were murdered by five Death Eaters during Voldemort's first war. Molly and Arthur did not join the Order of the Phoenix until the second war.

Courtesy of the boggart in HPOotP, we know that Molly's worst fear is seeing any one of her loved ones harmed or dead. This fear is likely the result of the deaths of her brothers, and the emotion and distress we witnessed in OotP were great -- we can only imagine how significantly the murders of her brothers affected Molly during the 1970s.

Although I'm sure Arthur, with his love of Muggles and disregard of blood purity, was eager to join the cause, he knew it would have been too hard on Molly, especially in the wake of the loss of her brothers.
