Teaching Tidbits (and more): A Day of Yay

Jan 21, 2013 16:59

I snagged a copy of Ophelia Joined the Group Maidens Who Don't Float: Classic Lit Signs on to Facebook based on a recommendation from a colleague, and it's cracking me up. I'm really looking forward to curling up with it for a few giggles, but it'll have to wait a while. I have plans to bang out.
Some writing assignment ideas... )

I think we might be feet twins: I have the same foot-proportion issues (plus absurdly long toes), and similar issues with Dansko clogs. My mom gave me a pair that she had bought and didn't find comfortable. I can wear them with thin socks or tights, but they are tight across the ball and arch of my foot, and then the heel is really wide and loose, which leads to slipping and rubbing. Woe.

I assigned my grad students to write a concert review for a general non-music-literate audience, and one of the options I gave them was to write about the musical programming in the inauguration ceremony. I found the musical selections this time fairly boring compared to four years ago, but so it goes.

Actually, it's not my toes/balls of my feet that Danksos hurt bu the top. Clogs are supposed to fit loose at the heels, but if they give you blisters, you probably have the wrong size. I love them, but the "Professional" style comes to high up on my foot without any give and *kills* me after an hour or so. Feels like it's crushing the bones in my foot. The maryjanes that come down lower and then have an elasticized strap across my instep are divine, though.

I like the idea of students writing about current events; anything to get them to pay attention a bit. :p
