The City of New Haven imploded the New Haven Coliseum this weekend. I saw the footage on the news, and they were interviewing people who waxed nostalgic about the events that took place at the Coliseum. An implosion is when an object collapses into itself, with nothing but a void, a vortex if you will, is left. If the coliseum were truly imploded, there would be a black hole left behind.
The building was collapsed, by using explosives.
I blame stupid people for this sort of thing. Mostly in the media.

But there's a reason why it's the 3rd definition: because it's not 1st!
Language assassins usually try the "common usage" card: "Well, a lot of people use the word this way so it's okay." To which I say "Well, a lot of people are fucking stupid, should we adopt ALL of their standards?"
I'm not saying you're stupid, Rom. I believe just the opposite. My rage here is exclusively toward the newspeople.
To my knowledge, I'm the only person I know who pronounces "forte" properly on a regular basis.
