AU Background:

From here on, I will refer to AU Karkat as Bluekat to prevent confusion between the two.

There is a game called Sgrub. There are variations of it, but it has one purpose in mind: destroy one universe, birth a new one. This hasn't changed in Violetesence. What has changed is every character's origin and path through the storyline, thanks to David Lalonde's attempts to preserve his friends from a previous session (which is the canon timeline).

All of the trolls have moved 5 steps upward in the hemospectrum. This leaves Karkat Vantas, who was originally a mutant candy red, at cerulean blue. We will call him Bluekat for now.

We first meet Bluekat greeting Kanaya Maryram, who has gone public and revealed her mutant candy red blood to the public. This turned out to be a Very Bad Idea. The Empire of Alternia marks her for culling, and she is often pursuit by both culling drones and by rabid FLARPers (as she's been marked as a rare mob by the game designers). He spends most of his time messing with her in a playful fashion, never outright malicious, but he and she both recognize that he is kind of a huge douchebag.

As the story progresses, we discover that Kanaya had killed Terezi in a fit of anger she couldn't control, likely a moment where Bluekat wasn't paying attention. He now keeps their relationship from getting too black, lest Terezi finally come and kill her. Bluekat also harbors some small red feelings for her, but he refuses to acknowledge them, even when she makes morbid and somewhat crazed advances on him.

After the kids get involved, things start to change. Jack bursts into their session, as he did in the original timeline and begins ripping it apart. On top of that, the trolls slowly descend into madness as their world collapses around them. Feferi goes grimdark and murders most of the trolls, even managing to manipulate Sollux' other half, Captor, into helping her. After Feferi kills Kanaya, Bluekat kills Captor and Eridan kills Feferi. While the aftermath here occurs, Bluekat chases down the fleeing and dying Sollux and finishes him off.

This is when our fearless notleader is brought to the Tower.

Personality:

/CRACKS KNUCKLES

Bluekat is, very simply, a tough guy on the outside and a flagrant romantic deep at heart. He centers his whole existence around any and all kinds of relationships, weaving intricate webs in his society to prevent what he believes will be the collapse of their society as a whole. As trolls are an extremely volatile race, their relationships must be carefully managed, lest they result in falling too far in the black spectrum of things and end in death. Nobody understands the true nature of trolls better than Bluekat. It is because of this that Bluekat tends to avoid allowing himself to get too close to others in the flushed quadrants (the more sexual end of troll romance), often needlessly complicating his feelings towards others to try and avoid any acknowledgment of their general existence.

But why, Bluekat? Why deny yourself of something that's supposed to bring you some strange form of pleasure? The answer is actually a lot simpler than one would think. As previously mentioned, Bluekat spent much of his earlier years botching black romances to turn them volatile. As a result, the trolls would murder one another and fall to their deaths in the jaws of his Spidermom. The experience truly numbed Bluekat as he explored different ways to ruin relationships to complete the task. In truth, feeding his mother was never something he really enjoyed, just something he viewed as necessity. Much like canon Vriska, Bluekat puts up a front that makes him appear careless and hardened to any sort of emotional strife while it silently tears him apart deep inside.

Bluekat still bears a lot of resemblance to Karkat, though a major difference is that Bluekat is very interested in survival where Karkat would rather be dead. Bluekat spent most of his life feeding trolls to Spidermom to keep himself alive in the symbiotic relationship, as well as coaching Kanaya on the side to keep her hidden from society in order to keep her alive. Thus, survival is very important to him. However, the chief aspect Bluekat retained from Karkat is his care for his friends. Despite arguably being one of the biggest insufferable douchebags at the start of it all, Bluekat puts his closest friends before everything else.

Bluekat's relationship with the kids is very testy. Like the original timeline, he originally blames his and his friends' plights on them for allowing Jack into their session. He later comes to the conclusion that it is, in fact, his fault (though the reason why is never stated). His kinship lies with the green texted human, John Harley (originally Jade Harley). More often than not, Bluekat directs a lot of his rage at his patron human, hinting at a desired (though unrequited by John) kismesissitude between them.

Bluekat often hints about which of his friends he deeply cares for and which he couldn't care less about. He has less fear of the pale quadrants, though he doesn't openly admit his moirallegiance with Kanaya until the most recent chapter. He also vaguely admits that he was once flushed for Terezi as well for Sollux, though both are now dead and gone. He also occasionally auspiticed for Kanaya and Terezi after their confrontation that resulted in Terezi's first death.

TL;DR: Bluekat is a HUGE 8ITCH 8LUH 8LUH with a (somewhat tarnished) heart of gold.

Abilities: One big change is that Bluekat has gained Vision Eightfold, which basically is an X-ray type of vision. It's never used in RDV, but Vriska was able to see into a magic cue ball with it previously. Bluekat also has a form of telepathy, which can be used to manipulate the minds of others. Most humans appear to be immune to it, though with enough exerted force, he can force them asleep with it if nothing else.

Being the Thief of Heart allows him to steal away and redirect the emotions/feelings/pain of others. The power also comes with a price -- if Bluekat has nowhere to direct the thieved emotions (be it on another troll or back to the owner in a different form), then he must take them on himself.

Sample Entry: WALK THIS WAY.
