it's official the moment it posts to your transcript. the diploma is wonderful to get, but as long as the university registrar can say you have the degree, you have it.

Knowing UC, I'm waiting for final demands for $$$$$$$$$$. Something like "Diploma Printing Fee," then the "Putting Diploma in Envelope Fee" and then the "Delivering Diploma Fee" - plus the markups on paying by credit card and postage and handling.

UC wants more kickbacks than an Illinois governor . . .
