I had a little phase as a kid where I was obsessed with the Guinness Book Of World Records, and for some reason the record that always stuck out in my mind was the sword-swallowing one. I don't remember what the mark to beat was (somewhere between 20 and 40 swords, perhaps?), but the reason it was particularly notable was that it was one of two records in that edition that had a warning that Guinness no longer acknowledged sword-swallowing for its records because it was too dangerous. They didn't want to encourage accidental sword-swallowing deaths. (The other record they were retiring in that edition because of the danger was longest-time-holding-breath-underwater. I think that was one was something like thirteen minutes.)
wow, thanks! i had no idea about the discontinued world record categories. the guy made me feel his spine through his stomach. he could literally move his organs around. only in SF could i go out by myself on a saturday and have such things occur to me.
The Prestige really rocked my world. it's sublime. the way the movie is paced, directed, the story is told, all are metaphors for the 3 steps to a magic trick. the twists and the cast. oh i was mesmerized!
