"Reworking Ideas And Concepts of The BoM"
On my way into work this afternoon, I was reevaluating my previous thinkings of the BoM texts. So in an attempt to relook at things as they are and possibilities and connections to Graeco Roman Polytheism.
• Nephites|Lamanites aren't nature divinities, rather they are cultural ancestors i.e. they
could be viewed as being the Atlanteans of the American Cont.
• While the book is what it is, I don't need to rework it to fit my needs - these people
left they left the old world and came to the new.
• Moroni is a legendary hero, cultural ancestor
Aside note | thought: can the dead nephites | lamanites be like the Daemones Argyreoi? The Daemons, not demons, Argyreoi were earth dwelling fertility spirits whom were born as the Silver generation of Man, brothers of the Golden Race. After their death (silver generation) were transformed into beneficial daemons. A thought-while based on text the nephites|lamanites are more akin to the lost Atlanteans vs. nature spirits.
Another issue for the texts, modern scientific dna analysis has found that there Native Americans don't have Hebrew dna, so the link between the native peoples and the Nephites|Lamanites has to be thrown out the window, for my purpose and study.
It is quiet possible that when they arrived in the American Cont. perhaps they didn't mingle into the Native populations that were already present there when they arrived and would take into account that no Hebrew DNA being found among natives peoples.
So let's for a moment throw out the nature ties that i have been playing with for awhile with no avail. So now let's approach things that Zarahemla, Nephites, Lamanites, are part of the lost cities and lost peoples mythos. So they would fit into the Atlantis aspect that i was toying with on my way to work this afternoon.
Now for some of you that have been following this blog, and i think i mentioned it before, I do believe that Atlantis existed. I don't however believe that the Atlanteans were technologically advanced using crystals, and air ships-they were probably no different than the Greeks and|or Romans.
But what makes them, the Nephites|Lamanites different? Well according to the BoM text they wrote in reformed egyptian.
"....Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians...."
~1 Nephi 2
So these people where a culmination of Egyptian and Hebrew cultures. So they are a hybrid civilization. Also according to wikipedia, Nephite Society experienced it's first major change in 150-91 BCE, during the reigns of Mosiah¹, Benjamin, and Mosiah².
The entire populace moved northward, societies merged, the government form changed, and traditional laws were codified.
The second major change was the Nephite and Lamanite societies had integrated for two centuries, only to separate again, probably along ideological lines rather than ethnic lines. This blending and dividing of cultures likely resulted in additional social changes.
The greatest amount of information about Nephite society comes from the middle epoch, from what is recorded in the books of Mosiah, Alma, Helaman, 3 Nephi, and 4 Nephi.
So with the Atlantean society they flourished to only perish never to be heard or seen again. The same can be said of the Nephite|Lamanite cultures. They flourished to only perish at the had of each other.
So to bring this long run on post-i guess i see them as being cultural ancestry, a legendary hero (being Moroni). Which makes more sense if you really think about. It does the text, i think, more justice vs. what i was doing.
