Has your guy considered what to do after glass-blowing school? Blenko Glass (in West Virginia), who hand-makes/blows all of their glass items seems to have some sort of apprenticeship program for its artisans. (I'm not sure how formalized it is - I was watching a PBS show about the history of this company about 3am one morning. It's actually pretty interesting.)
