My (late) New Year's Resolution...

 Well, first, I gotta tell the story.

We called my folks on Christmas day. I talked to my mom and my older brother, offering tidings of the season and good wishes. Warmth was shared, and it was considered good. Then my dad got on. Those who've known me a while can guess where this is heading.

Therapy has quickly become my saving grace these days. It's difficult to let go of the 'emotional hooks' put in us by our famililes, but by thinking better of ourselves than they ever did they slowly work their way out of us. You are a better person than your father will ever realize or think you to be. Keep on being the wonderful person you are. :)

Have you thought about not talking to the giant asshat anymore? You're a wonderful person, and if your craptastic dad can't see that, then he doesn't deserve to have you in his life. Fuck him.

to which the answer is an emphatic no. i think you've established a much better life for yourself on your own, and on your own terms, without him.

You know that I think the world of you. You've been such a huge help to me. Men like that don't deserve our time. You're more than a decent person my dear. You are amazing. Thanks for being my friend. It's definitely time to just say no.
