It's been a long day and seems to be getting longer. Why? LeKid turned 19 today.
Since it's her birthday and the last two years work declined to let me off on her day, I managed to beg today off for Lizzy's day. She's been depressed and quiet lately, mainly because all her friends are off to other places and she hasn't had much to do besides a few efforts to job hunt. And on that front, yesterday one of the places called, asking if she was still interested. So... she had an interview at 6:30pm which we had to juggle into place.
So the day... started early because we HAD to do laundry. Fun stuff but, hey, life. Then Connie called inviting us out to lunch at Gypsy's Tea Room. That's probably Lizzy's second favorite place to go, but we don't go much because it gets expensive fast and we adore it. Oh and the bottomless tea pots. And the freshly bagged tea you can get. Don't forget the scones. Or the clotted cream on sale. Or the tea pots, tea cozies, and other nick knacks. (Huge grin) Like I said, we only go for special occasions and Lizzy changed mind from us going to tea to dinner and a movie - since it's her day, her choice.
The light lunch at Gypsy's was, as usual, absolutely gorgeous. Fresh vegetable soup, all the veggies raised in their little kitchen garden. Orange-cranberry scones, fresh and hot from oven with clotted cream, apricot jam and/or strawberry jam. A fresh garden salad (again most of the vegetables grown there) with either Vidalia onion dressing or raspberry vinegrette. A small assortment of deserts - sliced fruits (honeydew melon, kiwi, cantalope, and mango), a delicate chocolate truffle and a homemade shortcake cookie in shape of a teapot each. For tea, Lizzy got the Winchester blend - a black tea with caramel and mint, and the Almond cookie - black tea with a delicate almond cookie taste. Both were very good (we like them enough to regularly try to purchase some but didn't have time to visit the tea shop itself yesterday). I had the Bamboo Shoot tea - a mild green tea with lemongrass, mint, and something else (I forget the last herb). Connie had the house Darjeeling.
From there Lizzy and I rushed to our movie, just making it. Her choice - Nanny McPhee Returns. Very light, clean family fun. She loved it. I found it amusing enough and very light hearted. Yes, plot holes because I know far too much about England during WWII, but still okay. And it IS a family movie so everything is clean and light. Well, except the poo... and there is LOTS of it because this happens on a farm.
Then, off again to early dinner reservations at Applebees (again, Lizzy's choice within the budget). We had the spinach dip appetizer (Lizzy's fav) and she had their new Chicken Penne. She liked it but there was enough for a huge portion to go home with us. I had the Asian chicken salad, again huge portion so half went home for lunch at work. Yes, so did the left over spinach dip.
Next... we had an hour or so after early dinner before the job interview. I tried to nap but didn't work. Then she was at the interview, which went well. Afterwards she went shopping with her birthday money from her greatgrandmom in Mass. What did she get - work related stuff because she wants to be independent. (surprised and amazed me. Saddened me too... 'cause it really is hitting that she's growing up, to be expected but still...)
Then home. Now... if only I can sleep.
