First time I ever went to England (Jan 1969) it was to a football match in Leeds. Although I had to be very very quiet because "dirty Leeds" were playing Manchester United.
First love was a Yorkshire lass (York....lovely city).
And I am glad to finally meet someone else who cant drive a car LOL

Well in late 1960s they had that reputation and never really shook it off. They had "a win at all costs" attitude and although Man United, Liverpool, Spurs etc are often hated (in that non thinking football fan way) they are "respected". Leeds never were...and still have a chip on their shoulder about it.
And although the book on Brian Clough ("Damned United") is not very accurate...and at least one Leeds player has sued. ...the image in the movie (Michael Sheen) is that Leeds were a nasty lot.

I saw them play in the early 90s even I could spot them kicking and tripping the other team and I know nothing about football, they seldom got caught for it
