Why do I even bother...

Nov 23, 2007 15:40

You'd think I'd have learned by now, really.

Note to self: The next time you have the impulse to attempt to save one of those self-sacrifice-crazed Lightsworn from themselves, save the time and the energy and don't bother.

Either that, or ask Christie if she can offer all these suicidal martyrs in training some kind of remedial classes in HOW TO ( Read more... )

Stupid flesh and blood types.

I suppose I should only be half offended by this, considering I am only half flesh and that half is effectively immortal anyway.

I take it that you're less ...meatlike than most of the individuals walking around the city?

Really, there are times I do wonder how mankind has managed to populate the world so vigorously, since they also blindly throw their meat-based and eminently carveable bodies into situations that would prematurely end their reproductive capacity -- as well as their pulses...

My personal vendetta is with humans, such stupid creatures they are.

I am graciously Mecha, for the most part, but there is no helping my mortal birth.

They are destined for extinction.

Be careful of vendettas. Anything which you allow to dominate your thoughts so completely is also, by definition, something which controls you and compels you. If you seek something so exclusively, then its pursuit becomes the dominant trigger of thought and action alike, which will make you first predictable and then, in predictability, defeatable.

...At least, such is my experience with those who pursue either power or vengeance with such determination.

No helping your mortal birth? Yes, I suppose, but that is rather like saying there is no helping orange. Orange exists, and is a fact of the universe; wishing that it were lavender instead is quite futile. Why regret what cannot be changed? Instead, determine what can be done with what is...

Destined for extinction they may be, as all things will come to death and the void in the fullness of time. But given the rate and enthusiasm with which they breed, I rather suspect it will be a while. If you have any need for oxygen, for example, I'd advise against holding your breath.

I do resent being compared to a lemming.

[She still is not sorry. xDD]

Really? Tell me which of these statements you would argue with, then.

1) The world has fallen to sin, so a holy martyr must give his life for the world's redemption.

2) There is only one holy martyr at a time; that one is expected to die, or at least to suffer horribly, and the others are expected to survive and be grateful for the lack of opportunity to share that suffering and ease it in some way.

3) It's better to take all the suffering on myself than to allow anyone I care for to suffer.

Now which will it be? A betrayal of your religion's tenets, a betrayal of your own decisions, or the admission that so damned many of your Light-born believe the same thing that it's become practically a race to see who can martyr themselves first?

Hence, my belief that a truly efficient would-be conqueror should simply invest in sign stock advertising the local equivalent of "the cliff of martyrdom is that way" with large red arrows.

And do keep in mind that your thoughts are clearer to me than this written communication could ever be. It' ( ... )

If your would-be conqueror did such a thing, then who, pray tell would be left for them to conquer? Is there much triumph in defeating the already-dead?

It's rather impolite to be so forward with someone's thoughts, particularly as I'm no longer trying to..... Oh dear.....Do you suppose...but Patchouli hinted that it was only temporary.....

[XDDD Now she's worried that she's unwittingly 'speaking her mind' in a whole new way. XDDD]

Ah, but you haven't answered my question aloud, that is.

Will you deny any of those statements and, with them, your faith and your decisions?

Or do you grant their accuracy and, with that, acknowledge the collectively self-sacrificing (to the verge of lemmingly suicidal) nature of the Lightsworn?

Do pray indulge me; I have an odd affection for seeing such things acknowledged in words spoken before all the world rather than in the privacy of one's soul... ♥

As for the other -- I've never claimed would-be conquerors were intelligent, my dear lady. Self-evidently, they are not; I am sure not a one of them truly understands what it is to hold the power they so desire, for if they did, they could not desire it so heedlessly and all-consumingly. Power has always been far more curse than blessing, for it brings with it both responsibility and the envy and malice of those who lack power due to a failure to understand it. Therefore, I wonder how many of them have truly thought far enough ahead to consider the implications of a world ( ... )
