As ever, in celebration of the Inverse

Feb 11, 2008 19:41

I suppose I am literally fated to view the world from the perspective of the antithesis. But, truly, this holiday is so disproportionate.

Those who are in love are celebrated, feted, fed sweets and offered flowers -- and where does that leave those who are not in love ( Read more... )

So, it's an anti-Valentine's party? lady_caterina February 12 2008, 02:04:35 UTC
Will there be voodoo dolls and a bonfire, Sydney dear?

[ooc: I HAVE FOUND MY PARTY XDDD]

Of course there will be bonfires. What kind of heretic do you take me for? --no wait, don't answer that. :3 Yes, the bonfires are de rigueur. After all, there must be a suitable way to assemble s'mores from the chocolate tithe!

Now, what are voodoo dolls...?

--oh. How delightfully vindictive. :3

[ooc: XDDDD My single friends and I usually go out on Valentine's Day just to be oppositional-defiant. There's a hot chocolate bar in town -- apparently that brand's here and in Portland and that's it -- and we go out and be wildly chocolate indulgent and commiserate about how exclusivist Valentine's Day is. And then I come home and snuggle my cat. But yeah, V-Day is just not singles-friendly. Not to mention I just cleaned the catbox before writing this, which is about the most anti-romantic activity in existence. XP]

As utterly entertaining as it would be to watch him attempt to roast marshmallows on that scythe of his, I think I shall make certain to offer him a stick instead. I shudder to imagine the difficulty in extracting melted marshmallow goo from something with that level of intricacy in the carving.

But I think I will indulge myself for a moment with the mental images.

[ooc: catbox pwns just about anything catbox wants to pwn, by virtue of being catbox. XDDD Also, I cannot get rid of the mental image of chibiCrusnik with a string of marshmallows on the whippy end of the scythe, happily toasting away over the fire...]

What an intriguing perspective. I must say, you've caught my attention.

As have you, good sir. Your mind is utterly fascinating...

[ooc: So sorry about the delay both here and as Seph in your journal! Still getting over the cold and life's been busy this week. Will try to get a Seph-reply to you tomorrow once I've slept some. Also, per Cat's shower snippet, Sydney contemplated offering Isaak a rubber ducky and some soap on a rope. But he suspects it would be a race between Isaak and Cat for who would tear his head off first, and until she gets her new lungs Cat oughtn't be running around screaming at the top of her lungs QUITE that much... XDDD]

[ooc: Soap on a rope? xDDD And let me guess, one of those those lil devil duckies? xDDDD You win at the Intarwebs, girl...xDDD

*edit* and I fail at spelling x_x

Also, Idk. Maybe the running and screaming would be good for her >_> ]

My mind?

[ooc: Now you've really got his attention. =P No worries, Hun. I totally feel your pain... Also, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I now have the most amusing image in my head of Isaak gazing contemplatively at the ducky, giving it an experimental squeak... And it occurs to him that if the soap were spikey, it would make a decent mace. =P *snicker*]

You, sir--

...have amused me. Commendable. Perchance I shall attend - though I'd have a tiny little thing to do before arriving. There's someone I'd like to talk to and make sure is well. She often seems so lonely... and I rarely ever get to speak to her. Then, I also have something to create rather quickly. I always bring my own brand of entertainment to such celebrations - and it's child-friendly, too. Assuming the stand out of the line of fire.

[[OOC: Okay, he's amazing now. NOW I KNOW WHAT I WILL DO ON VALENTINE'S DAY.]]

I'm glad to hear it, my lady. You --

--you have an extraordinary mind; I think I've touched the edges of it before. The kind of control you must need, and -- the sheer range you have... how very intriguing...

Ah, but I'm sure it's much more educational for the children if they are allowed to make their own decisions about what is to be considered the line of fire. Not to mention survival of the fittest and all. Of course, I have never claimed to be a good person. More the opposite really... :3

[ooc: (sweeeeeatdrop) my life went chomp on my head this week, but Sydney would definitely have held the party I didn't have time to get on and log if Patchouli wants to have attended! He's mostly kidding about the kids and survival of the fittest and quick-and-painful educational strategies... buuuut not entirely. XD]

...Um. I don't get it.

[ooc: Sadly, he does share my view on Valetine's. XD WHY DO THEY HAVE A HOLIDAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY FOR BEING SINGLE?!]

It's all right, Demyx. You have Riku to be happy with, after all. You're meant to enjoy this holiday. Take your pleasure in it, and be as romantic with each other as you like.

[ooc: I am totally with him on the 'wtf about everybody else' thing! It's the way he cheerfully turns this into what's a thinly disguised Dark recruiting spiel that has me boggling a bit though... never one to miss a Dark-proselytizing opportunity, Sydneymuse...]

I'm not sure if I should feel guilty or proud I'm leaving an offering for my parent's anniversary today.

Why would you feel guilty about it? If one has a romantic partner, there is no more practical day possible for marrying upon. It halves the amount of money to be spent by consolidating two holidays into one. And it also means that for date-forgetful people, one only needs to remember one romance-associated day a year. Eminently practical.

It's the holiday's assumptions about the unworthiness of a solitary or abandoned or widowed life that I object to. But when you have a partner, go ahead and indulge; someone might as well get some use from the day, after all. :3
