[Elaine saw that, mostly because she had been paying close attention to the network. Immediately she started feeling hopelessness creep back into her system. She remembered the feeling that no one would be going home, and that many of them would die.]

[But even while she thought all of this, at the same time she moved. She had been patrolling the air around the Mansion, but as the video timed out she dove toward the hole in the ground. She could feel him down there, barely.]

[She climbed down as quickly as she could.] Ganta!? [Spotting him on the ground, she rushes over and clutches his shoulders.] Ganta?

[Ganta's stopped screaming by the time Elaine arrives. In the otherwise quiet space, a voice can be heard singing.]

Evil little Woodpecker
You made another hole today,
the forest's full of holes, I say.
The angry wood god put poison in your beak.

[Ganta looks up at Elaine when she grabs him, but doesn't really see her. The albino girl, still several feet away, isn't deterred by Elaine's arrival. In fact, she smiles and continues to approach. Her steps are slow and measured, and she sings quietly.]

Poor little Woodpecker,
Your nest and food are poisoned.
Touch your friends and they all die.
Sad little Woodpecker,
Your poisoned tears shine so brightly.

[Elaine turns around to face the way-too-creepy girl, and for a second she has the desire to use the power that is always brimming up inside her, ready to burst. But Ganta was there, and she couldn't risk hurting him.]

Back off. I'm warning you right now. Back off-

Hrsshk.

[Suddenly, she can't breathe. She's lifted off her feet. She can't see what was attacking her, but the grip around her neck is too familiar, and she can feel the aura so close to her. She can feel it brimming with willpower.]

[No... it couldn't be him. Not here. Not again.]

[Elaine's distress seems to snap Ganta back into reality. He's on his feet immediately, ripping a hole in the side of his hand with his teeth, and using his power to forcefully pull the blood out of the wound before the acid in it can burn his skin.]

Let her go! Now!

[He holds out his hand toward the new enemy, prepared to use his powers as soon as he finds an angle at which the blood bullets won't hit Elaine as well.

The albino girl, on the other hand, is still approaching him at her steady, slow pace, but Ganta seems to be disregarding her in favor of the less familiar and more immediate threat.]
