Considering how difficult it was just to read this, I can only imagine what a mind-fuck it was to see it. So yeah, totally normal for your head to blow a circuit breaker by finding something to focus onto that it could handle.

It was very strange. Like watching tv. I've seen plenty of dead bodies, but this was the first one that had to potential to die in front of me. Luckily I think she'll be fine, but it was still a bit odd.

Just remember...the color of blood dulls very quickly. It is VERY bright after it first leaves the body, but will dull down to merely red, or even a brownish red, after just a few minutes.

As far as the experience itself, everyone reacts differently to that kind of thing. Some people are really bothered, some aren't. Some panic, some concentrate and become hyperaware, and some find something in their experience that better allows them to deal.

At the very least, you've seen something that can be put to use later to entertain, so the experience wasn't a complete negative.

That's just my opinion, of course.

It was only bright because her carotid artery was opened up, if it had been only the jugular it would indeed have been the dark color you were expecting. This means she is lucky beyond belief (literally) that people reacted so quickly and the medics got there so fast, brain damage/death can happen within minutes.

How horrible! For her and for all the witnesses; that's not something you forget...
