Really, I just didn't want the story to end on too sweet a note. It felt like it could be a little saccharine, so switching to the rest of them watching was something I wanted to do.
Trouble is, I tend to write from character POVs, so had to fudge it a little more than I'd like in that final bit. And in the bit with Annie running from the study room.
Yeah, I decided I liked the idea of Annie just having had enough and flipping her lid. And the image of her pushing Jeff bodily amused me.
The other fic is still in progress. But it's probably going to end up very different than this one, and focus more on Jeff and Annie being in a relationship, facing problems together. Just got to get them there first.
And I think I'm probably incapable of writing unhappy endings, really. It's a terrible failing, but I seem to go easy on the characters, more often than not. Well, I guess they deserve a break, every now and again.
This was great, I had been waiting for this update for a while. I felt so bad for Jeff towards the end of the last one, but this more than makes up for how that last one ended. Jeff really is a dumb-ass!. Dude, You're a lawyer, use your words. But I totally love the idea of Annie pushing Jeff around, he needs a good smack or two every once in awhile. Don't ever stop writing ;)
Thank you. Sorry it took so long, but sometimes I get really bogged down, and end up just rewriting the same paragraph a dozen times.
I like the idea of Jeff, the suave, collected ladies man, the charismatic lawyer, being completely tongue-tied by his emotions. Hell, he even seems to be brain-tied, some of the time.
I love the way you ended this. I can legitimately see Jeff behaving this way should he ever get to the point where he can admit his feelings for Annie and decide to act upon them. I imagine Jeff as being very vulnerable and wanting to literally run away from the pain.
Great character voices and nice slow build to the climax. Plenty of tension with the perfect payoff at the end. Well done.

Yeah, I think we've seen a few glimpses of Jeff not being able to handle strong emotions. Usually on the show, it's in the form of anger, but I could easily see him feeling helpless and vulnerable if the emotions were related to love and desire.
We even saw a little bit of that back in season 1, when he struggled to accept Britta dating Vaughn, and he wasn't even that interested in Britta.
