:o I forgot!
CHAPTER THREE
Lunchtime tended to be the busiest day in the café and today was no exception. Rosie eagerly served people behind the counter hoping James might come back in. She and Emma had decided not to give the phone into Ross in case James did ring it, but if after a week he had not got in contact with his phone, they would hand it in.
“It’s bloomin’ hot!” Emma moaned as she came out of the kitchen with a cloth in one hand, the other wiping her forehead. Rosie handed a woman her change and shut the till draw. She turned to Emma and leaned on her shoulder.
“I know, and I’m tired from standing up all morning! Do you wanna sneak a quick break and get Ryan or Mike to cover us?” She said looking around the café for the two guys. Emma nodded chucking the cloth back into the kitchen.
“Yea we’ll go out back and take our proper break at like 3 as per usual!” She sang re-tieing her brown hair. Rosie called Ryan over and asked him to cover.
“So if he asks, tell him we’re out back…putting out rubbish…OH and if anyone famous comes in…give us a yell as soon as!” She said as she walked into the kitchen. Ryan laughed.
“Yes I heard James was in here yesterday! Don’t worry I’ll yell!” Emma and Rosie grinned, and went out the back door. They sat down against the brick wall and stretched their legs out.
“Have you got it with you?” Emma asked as she checked her phone. Rosie nodded.
“Of course, what if he rung whilst I was working? I had to turn it off last night cos I want the battery to last!” Emma put her own phone away and got out James’ from Rosie’s apron. As she did it started to ring, the two girls stared at it. Emma dropped it in Rosie’s lap screaming in delight; “IT’S MATT!”. Rosie picked up the ringing phone and a pic of Matt eating a muffin displayed the screen along with the words ‘The Muffin Man is calling’.
“I gotta answer it, it might be James,” Rosie said. Emma screeched in delight as Rosie nervously held the phone to her ear. She pressed the green button and bravely said.
“Hello” Emma put her fist in her mouth to stop her from screeching something. A southend accent replied, making Rosie’s heart skip a beat or ten.
“Hey, erm my names James and err, you’re on my phone!” He said half laughing. Rosie nervously laughed back.
“Oh I know...well I was handed in this phone yesterday, my name’s Rosie I work at Costa Coffee…-”
“-I knew I’d left it there! Oh thank-you, erm I kinda need it back today but I can’t get to you , I’m erm…busy…would you be able to drop it off?” Rosie looked at Emma with a big grin, Emma looked confused and startled.
“Sure I’d be able to drop it off to you!” She said looking at Emma, Emma gasped loudly, the grin on her face as big as ever.
“Just tell me where” Rosie said getting her order pad out of her apron ready to write down the details.
“Well what time will you be able to drop it off?”
“I’m afraid not till about 6? I don’t get off work till then…but I could try and leave early if 6 is a problem,” She asked. There was a sort of sigh from the other end of the phone. Emma was now leaned up to Rosie so she could ear wig the conversation. She mouthed ‘Wembley gig tonight” Rosie nodded understanding what she meant.
“Well ok, would you be able to come to Wembley for about 4.30? I know your working…”He asked. Rosie looked at Emma who was nodding violently.
“Yea, where shall I go to at the arena?” Rosie asked. Emma hit her hard. Up until now James didn’t know that she knew who he was. He laughed.
“Ahh the identity’s out!” He said in an American cartoon voice. Both girls laughed.
“I knew before you rang…well when you rang…the pic that came up of Matt…”She said half laughing, half scared. James laughed again.
“Haha! Yea ok, when you get here…ok I’ll tell you what, go round to the back gates and tell the security guard you’re the Costa girl here to drop my phone off. He’ll let you in, then go to the backstage doors and tell security the same thing and they’ll either get me or let you in or something…will you be on your own?” He asked her. Rosie looked at Emma who was looking at her pleadingly.
“No, but I’ll be with just the one person, my co-worker Emma…she’s my alibi out of work! - err is that ok?” Emma listened eagerly praying he would say it was fine so she could hopefully bump into Matt.
“Yep that’s cool, I’ll let security know and all that in case they think she’s some fan trying to get in and using you…you get me?” Rosie laughed.
“Yea I do! So see you at 4.30?”
“Yep 4.30! If you do have any problems with security, phone Matt’s mobile, in fact can you text his mobile when you’re 5 minutes away? Just in case I’m tied up?” James asked. Rosie grinned.
“Yeah sure, ok see you later” They both said goodbye and hung up. The two girls jumped up and screamed in delight.
“MAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!” Emma yelled hugging Rosie. Rosie laughed then put her hand over Emma’s mouth.
“Shhh! We’ve got to be quiet, they’ll hear us, plus we need to make up some excuse to get out at 4.30!” Rosie said. Emma bit her lip as Rosie wiped her hand on her apron.
“I’ve got it!”
