I saw the Basterds yesterday for the first time and think I agree mostly with you there. There's a weird disconnect between the two storylines. You have the amazing Basterds stuff (HUGO STIGLITZ, man I exploded when that came up), and then suddenly the Shoshanna stuff. And was it me, or did those shots seem less professional too? I dunno, weird. Aside from the occasional brilliant Tarantino shots (putting on lipstick), it's just not very good. So it's a weird half-film as far as I'm concerned. Not as overall brilliant as Kill Bill.

Then again, the PERFORMANCES the movie gets from especially Hans the Jew Hunter... oh my goodness!

I loved Hugo Stiglitz's reactions in the café/cellar scene, and then in the end this explosion of frustration that just erupts all over his victim was just fantastic.
Funny, I enjoyed that lipstick scene as well but I agree that I simply wasn't all that into it in the Shoshanna story either. It was more enjoyable the second watch though, perhaps because I anticipated it now and paid more attention to everything that was going on in her scenes.
Hans Landa/Christoph Waltz was indeed incredible and it's because of highlights like these that I have a hard time rating this movie.
