I witnessed something pretty terrible last week (which I will not get into, 'cause this is really not the place for it). But to quote Johan Cruyff here (and yeah I know what you're thinking, but I actually love this quote of his), every disadvantage has an advantage ("ieder nadeel heeft een voordeel") and it inspired me to write a poem about it.
See, I figured that the best way to cope with it is.. well talking about it comes first of course (which I've been doing quite a lot, so go me 'cause in the past I prolly wouldn't have bothered with it), but expressing your feelings/emotions in writing is prolly a good second. Unfortunately I almost never write poems (which reminds me that I really should buy a good poems book one of these days 'cause I read 'em even less), so I soon came to the conclusion that it's really hard. Still, it works kind of soothing so I'm just going to continue with it. Also I have a few short lines that I'm really happy about, the problem is to fill in the "blanks". =P
It's funny that just before this happened I was thinking about songs that move me. I don't know if it's the combination of being a guy and a northern european.. but I have a hard time getting emotional because of songs or movies. I suppose it either has to be really sad (or remind me of something personal) or the emotion has to be genuine before something can drive me to tears (it does happen though).
Mad world, performed by Gary Jules is one that comes close. Donnie Darko was a beautiful movie (imho) and although it's a cover (which I normally despise) it just feels as if the lyrics come out so much.. better?

Hurt, by Johnny Cash.. (another cover, hah). Supposedly written by Trent Reznor about his heroin addiction, but the words seem to get a whole new meaning when Cash sings it.

Bobbie Gentry, Ode to Billy Joe.
The song tells a story really, and although it doesn't sound all that sad, the lyrics hand you something of a puzzle and when you attempt to fit the pieces together it results in a not so happy picture.
