Concentration

I have a vested interest in being able to measure some things about myself objectively. Right now I have a few lame ways of doing the things on this list, but I thought I would throw this out there to my livejournal to see if anyone knew of anything on the web or any sort of computer program that would do it in a quicker, more automated fashion for ( Read more... )

there is a test out there that deals with reaction time and quickness of thinking. the one that comes to mind flashes letters at you on a random basis, for random periods of time, usually very quickly. when you see an X, you are supposed to hit the X key. it will measure how many times you got it wrong, plus your reaction time. i have no idea where to find it, or how it might apply to the three issues you bring up, but it's a fairly standard test.

I want a small stand alone application so I can keep it next to my other poker applications though, but these ones are kind of what I am looking for.

Good stuff. Thanks. Okay now on to concentration and emotion. Concentration would be hard, I wonder about emotion. Emotion is tough too... I don't know how you would do that one either. Hmm.

I read something once that mentioned that if you try to name as many animals as you can in 10 seconds you should be able name at least 10; any less than that and you are mentally tired ( ... )

I havent been able to find anything non addictive which is why my Dr. aggreed to give me a 30 supply every 3 months or so. That way I can't get addicted to it and can use it when I really need it. You can get it 4-6 hour versions and 10-12 hr ones (which is what I have), I hear Ritilin does the same thing. I also hear it only has this extreme effect if you don't have ADD or ADHD. I guess if you have either this will just make you calm.

it is one thing to know that you do something. it is another thing entirely to stop doing it.

One of the worst offenders is starting to play in the first place. Now that I have some pressure to play, I am in your spot that you have with the Monday tournaments kind of, where I sort of have to play, or at least I feel like I have to, but I don't really feel like playing 100%. So I force myself to play anyway, and then I play poorly. But since I started off in a bad state I am not in the right state of mind to make good decisions about quitting and what not; it is kind of like starting off on the wrong foot, you know what I mean ( ... )

Yeah - this is definetly part of it. Brian quit the monday tournaments because he simply didn't feel like playing after a day of work and stress. He wasn't 100% and didn't want to play in that state ( ... )
