"Beowulf": If you're going to see this, see it in IMAX 3-D - it's worth it! Not a great film, but not the commercial rip-off I was afraid of. It actually follows the original story very well (even down to the torn-off arm over the doorway of Heorot), but with a sad, terrible Gollumesque Grendel, a hero who is flawed in a very understandable way ( Read more... )

Oooh, holiday mah jong solitaire? Must check that out! And thanks for the mini-review of Beowulf. I've been trying to decide if I should go see that one.

It was a spur-of-the-moment thing for me; I was turned off by the idea that they had Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mother (!), and I spent a whole semester on Beowulf, so I shuddered at what they might do. So, as I said, I was pleasantly surprised. *G*

I looooved the holiday mah jong!

Ooo, thanks for the review. He saw the dragon in the trailer and said it looked cool, but hasn't asked to see it yet. I'm torn - I want to see it for Gaiman and, you know, Beowulf but Jolie does get in the way. Dragon, though... *chews lip*

Love all the other bits & bobs - played mah jongg & snickered at the cards - reminds me of the Karma Police tickets we used to sell at Transitions...

Don't let Jolie bother you; she does a good job in this. Yeah, I thought he'd like the dragon - *G*.

*L*! "Karma Police" tickets - genius! Actually that reminds me of the commercial on TV, where one guy in a car picks up after another guy in a car, and eventually puts a "tree" made up of the trash on the other guy's car - his karmic retribution.

Queen's helper strangely familiar, even as a cartoon

Now I'm curious. Who is it?

Aha!

Here's a (big) hint. He's a real rat, but not very popular, even though he's in a very popular fandom!

Yes!!!! *applauds you madly*

Talk about coincidence... I saw a trailer for Sweeney Todd yesterday and - there he was again, behind the Judge! I bet he's playing the Beadle.
