The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Mar 21, 2007 21:45

I have only see bits and pieces of the movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (it is one of my Dad's favorites) but the title has always intrigued me. I thought I would tell about the good, the bad and the ugly of my day. Since I like to end things on a positive note, I will go backwards.

The UglyThose of you that receive my family letters know ( Read more... )

i'm sorry you can't sleep. is there anything you can do about it? like herbal tea before you go to bed? it's probably not as simple as that. i hope it goes away soon and you can get some decent sleep.

Thanks, Chowling. Sometimes things like herbal tea (Celestial Seasons Sleepy Time Tea)and natural sleep aids like Melatonin really help me to sleep. But other times, like these past few days, nothing seems to help. I hate the idea of prescription sleep medication but I may have to resort to that if I don't start getting some sleep soon. Hopefully tonight will be better!

The Ugly

oooh, that certainly sounds colorful. I hope it isn't painful. Does it hurt to wear shoes?

The Bad

What keeps you awake...if you know? Can you not stop thinking? Can't get comfortable? On the extremely rare occasions that I have trouble getting to sleep, I sort of self-hypnotize myself by telling myself I'm sleepy, very comfortable, that my body is heavy and sinking into the bed. Works every time. I think I already told you about the mental exercises I learned in college and how they worked so well I used to fall asleep on the gym floor. LOL

It's curious how we vary in our sleep needs. I can't even remember the last time I got more than six hours of sleep a night. Many times it's five. But I feel OK all day. Well, most of the time. I've been known to nod off reading a book or magazine in the afternoon.

The Good

I think the weight loss is great. I'm so happy for you. And how wonderful that the vision therapy is working so well.

Happy First Day of Spring to all of you on this side of the equator!Oh? I ( ... )

I enjoy your long comments, Yeux. I think long responses are fun. Thanks!

There is one pair of shoes I can wear. They have a wide toe area. They are probably my least favorite looking shoes but I am thankful to have them right now. I wear those when I go out and I wear flip-flops around the house.

When I am trying to sleep I am able to put off all thoughts but I still end up laying there for ever. I have tried everything from relaxation exercises to counting to 1000 over and over again to natural sleeping aids to herbal teas to "white noises." Sometimes those things work but other times, like lately NOTHING works.

Thanks so much for being happy for me about the weight loss and for my son about the VT. As I have said before, you are the kind of friend who knows how to "weep with those who weep" and "rejoice with those who rejoice."

So sorry that Mother Nature has not told NH that Spring has arrived.

Well, I give you credit for trying all these things. I guess the only thing left is sleeping pills and I'd hate to see you get started on them. Was last night better?

Last night was better. Thanks for asking. I still don't feel rested since I had lost so much sleep for several nights before. Hopefully tonight I will sleep well, too, and get caught up.

I really want to avoid sleeping pills if at all possible.

I love your icon. :-)

Thanks, Mumis. :-) I have tried the tea. Sometimes it has helped but this time nothing seems to be helping. :-( Thanks for the "smiley" I love it. Perhaps if I look at it right before I go to bed, it will help me sleep. :-)

Rose, I hope that you are able to make up your sleep. I know the feeling of moving through a busy, sleep-deprived day in a fog, and it ain't fun! And your days are way busier than mine are!!! Congrats on the weight loss! Every pound lost is a bit of freedom gained. Good for you!!!

((Rose))

Love, Lila

Thanks so much, Lila. It sounds like you can relate to exactly what it is like to be sleep deprived!

Thanks for the congratulations on the weight loss. I love your quote of "Every pound lost is a bit of freedom gained."

So sorry about the insomnia. *hugs* I hate that lying awake feeling. ;-( I hope that things improve soon. On night's when I'm having trouble sleeping and I really need to (like before a long drive), I've taken Benadryl. It knocks me out and is quite safe. They even gave it to me in the hospital when I was pregnant with the girls.

I'm so thrilled that Vision Therapy is helping at least some. That's fantastic! :-)

Thanks, Celebrian. I know that you can relate to what it feels like to get through the day on very little sleep. :-/ Thanks for the tip about Benadryl. I wonder if it is safe to take it for several nights in a row or if can eventually become addictive.

Thanks so much for being happy for us about the VT going well. I am pretty thrilled.

They gave it to me nightly at the hospital (and I was there for 22 days). Initially, I declined because I didn't want to take any extra meds, but then my skin got really dry and itchy because the hospital air was so dry that I couldn't sleep and the Benadryl helped the itch. Once I tried it I'd ask for it every night when I was getting ready to go to sleep because it made such a huge difference for both the itch an the amount of sleep i could get. You could try calling your doctor's office and asking about how long it's OK to take it. That's always a good idea.

Thanks so much for this information, Celebrian. I think I will add Benedryl to the shopping list. :-)
