I got a CD from a guy I know "Smooth Jazz Ballads" and on it was a fabulous singer I sadly never heard of before, Peabo Bryson, who has an amazingly beautiful voice. I will buy a CD by this singer in the next days

Peabo is divine. He's been around since the early '80s and has done a ton of music. One of my fave songs of us is a duet he did with late Minnie Riperton. The man was also some kind of fine back in the day.
Well, Kevin and Ashly were supposed to be singing the songs as *characters* not singers. "True Love" was being performed for a small group of friends and wasn't supposed to be polished or her trying to sound like a singer. It was her trying to sound the way someone who isn't a singer but who loves her husbands songs would sing for an intimate group of friends. That version is actually one of my favorites of all the verions i"ve heard for its simplicity.
As for Kline, he was told not to sing it too well because Cole Porter wasn't that great of a singer either.

There are some actors who interpret songs well even though they aren't trained singers but a lot of them, at least in the cabaret-programs I have seen, try to sing, very often sadly even choosing a key that is wrong for their voice, instead of concentrating on the lyrics. And a ballad almost never can be sung satisfyingly by a non-singer for my taste, I just want the belcanto, the beautiful, trained
