DADT repeal and "Captain Jack Harkness"

Like many of my LJ and RL friends, I am thrilled by the Senate repeal of DADT, but also aware of how much more still needs to be done to end discrimination here in the US. "Captain Jack Harkness" is my favorite episode of Torchwood besides CoE. It's beautiful in so many ways - the Jack backstory, Tosh being amazing, and of course the queerness through the ages.

Yes, isn't it wonderful? And Tosh is particularly awesome. Even though Jack keeps saying impressive-sounding things like "You're with the Captain" and "I'll take care of you," of course it's Tosh who figures out how to save them and goes around like a badass, literally writing the solution in her own blood. Meanwhile, Jack hangs around being melancholy and lovestruck (though of course I'm incredibly moved by his bond with Real Jack and that theme of queerness through the ages). I'm not sure whether this is deliberately meant to satirize typical male-female gender roles, but I love it!
