I live in Canada, and if I saw a chafing dish marked "bacon", I would expect strips of bacon. What you had, I would call backbacon.

Either way, it's delicious!

Maybe it's a BC thing? I will mention that I ate my weight in fresh berries, and that's a LOT of berries.
