Hey everyone. So I'm going to babble a bit about my personal life before I get onto the dress diary - full dress diary minus ranting is on the facebook fanpage.

Oh bollocks my entire personal rant got nommed by the LJ cut gods. I hate hate HATE HATE HATE when that happens. GLSDKFJLDSKJ.

To recap what I had previously written on in extensive detail. I really really really want a job that's being advertised at a bridal store in town. Here's their ad:

We have a vacancy coming up in our Auckland City store in Symonds Street, as our key employee is transferring overseas. We want to hear from anyone who loves the idea of bridal and helping look after brides from start to finish. Much more than just retail - there is no just standing at the counter! You work one on one with people and follow up with information and sourcing product. You will be computer literate, be organised and also know how to weild a tape measure. The ability to sew is not essential (but would be a great asset). You will be self motivated and self guiding. Some understanding of garment construction would also be a bonus. For the right person the role can be could include a part time aspect. This role could suit an ex alterations person or who has worked in suits or tailor made clothing. A very high standard of service for our customers is expected. There will be room for the role to progress for the right person

THIS. IS. SO. TOTALLY. PERFECT FOR ME. You have no idea.

For those of you who don't know, I really like to plan. I'm getting worse as I get older. Lots of planning. Some days I schedule down to the hour. AND STICK TO IT. It's the subject of much giggling for my friends.

Anyway, so I planned how my life would pan out should I get this job. They're advertising at $5 above minimum wage, and it's a full time, 40 hour position tuesday through saturday. Providing I'm employed at that rate, if I save two thirds of my wage each week, after three years I'll have saved up enough money to pay my rent, utilities, food, cell phone, transportation, and around twenty bucks misc spending per week FOR MY ENTIRE COLLEGE EDUCATION. Also if I'm extra frugal during that period, I'll have a good few thousand left over after graduation, which would tide me over those inevitable few months of unemployment which follow graduation.

So yeah. Super exciting great opportunity. Send good vibes my way? I emailed my CV and cover letter in last week, but the hiring manager has been sick, so I'm calling back tomorrow at two to put my best foot forward and plant sneaky subliminal thoughts in her head. Ooooooooo I am friendly and knowledgable oooooooo, I will be a dedicated employee oooooo etc etc.

ON TO THE SEWING BIT.

I was commissioned to make a lovely fifties style cocktail dress out of white satin and black polka dot tulle. It's going to look super awesome.

(Comparing one half of the lining with one half of the main bodice)
We've changed the design somewhat since I posted about it - I'm stitching it as a skirt and bodice combo instead of one singular dress. The bodice will extend down over the hips a bit, will have a black satin sash tied at the waist, and will fasten with an invisible zip at the back.

(Preparing to cut out the front panels of the white satin - using the fleshtone cotton lining as a template)

The skirt is a simple six or seven paneled a line skirt with the tulle box pleated to the waist band. The skirt will also have an underskirt consisting of a plain white taffeta lining, stiff white netting under layer, and the topmost layer will be soft black bridal tulle.

(The progress today - Tulle overlay and initial thoughts on the waist band. Tomorrow I will be stitching up the skirt and petticoat)
