TVD just desperately needs a season-long villain that actually gets killed for good for once. Just one time, I'd like a big bad to not be incorporated into the long term fabric of the show. For me, it's just a matter of pay-off. And seeing our heroes successfully defeat someone.
THANK YOU. I feel like I'm all alone in this thought. I know everyone and their mother loves Klaus, and I love him too, but I need a break from him. And I need our gang to actually win for once.
I had an idea that maybe Klaus could get turned human somehow (Esther brought up that possibility when she wanted to turn her children human and then kill them), and then have to deal with no longer being the strongest, most immortal guy in the room, and see what that did for him.
If our gang made it happen, it would be a win of a sort for them, and he could leave town for a bit in his despair at being powerless. Then he could come back and SLOWLY learn how to be an ok guy again, maybe pursue Caroline, whatever. That way he gets punished, he's no longer a threat to Team Elena, but they can keep him on the show.
Eh, it might be an awful idea, but it occurred to me as a way to defeat the big bad but still keep him as a recurring character since everyone adores him and Joseph Morgan so much.
I was really disappointed that Klaus is already back, TBH. I thought sealing him in the coffin was perfect. It doesn't kill him, but it gives us a break from him. And vampire Elena in S4 is more than enough to keep the story going. But I guess not. What is Klaus even going to DO in S4? He can't have a doppelganger anymore. He can make more hybrids with the blood, I guess, but THEN WHAT. If there's no doppelganger, reasons for him to stick around have just decreased dramatically, and they haven't been that good this season to begin with.
Yes, THIS. I really hope they come up with compelling story for him in Season 4, because his plot was already getting pretty meander-y in Season 3, and now a lot of his motivations are gone.
Unless it's his usual, "I'll kill everyone you've ever known" because Elena's a vamp and they dessicated him, which YAWN. We have seen this so many times and it never comes to ANYTHING.
I feel like Klaus, as fascinating a character as he is, is the definition of so much build up and no pay off, which drives me nuts.
I would much rather have Klaus defeated for a time, or at least be forced into a miserable/powerless situation for a time, so that I can feel that he's paid for all the havoc he's wreaked, and then have him be a recurring guest star instead of a regular.
Yeah, this. I honestly think it was a mistake to make JoMo a regular. Klaus has lost pretty much all of his menace. HE SHOULDA DIED, GRRR.
I love that when he asks for it point blank, she gives him honesty. Because as much as it hurts, that's what he wants. He wants it to be real.
Yep yep. My favourite.
Oh Damon and his constant mocking of adversaries that can crush him like a bug. It's one of my favorite Damon qualities, tbh.lol yes, the fine line between bravery and profound stupidity
( ... )
Totally agree, such a mistake to make Joseph Morgan a regular. Recurring would have made so much more sense. Worked for Rebekah.
Elena and Damon and their honesty are the literal best.
lol yes, the fine line between bravery and profound stupidity.
Ha! That's perfect, such an apt description of Damon.
I'm so glad we're on the same page with flashback Damon. I thought he was perfect! Like, the exact Damon we get in Season 1 when his guard is down or when he's deciding to be nice. So confuzzled by fandom's reaction to that scene.
MTE. I think it's just testament to how similar Elena and Damon are that she's able to get to him so quickly.
EXACTLY.
Man, I want Season 4 soooo bad. I'm desperately hoping there will be some epic vamp!Elena fic to tide me over.

So sick of Klaus, TBH. I was ready for him to take an extended vacation in the coffin. It seemed like a good solution to keep him away without killing him. (Well, killing him is good, too, but obviously the show wants to keep using him, so coffin seemed like a good compromise.) And what's his motivation NOW going to be? No doppelganer for him to have anymore.
I agree with your take on flashback!Damon. It can throw you off, I guess, if you were taking his actions in S1 at face value. But all of it was a performance for Stefan--I always think of how he is in 1x14, when he tells Stefan he hopes Elena dies, but then when Elena comes to make a deal with him, you know he wouldn't harm her ever. It was all an act--not that he wouldn't have done terrible, callous things to achieve his goals, and obviously Caroline was a victim of his complete disregard for humans in general, but never with Elena. It could never be that way. If nothing else, she's wearing Katherine's face; but of course we know early on he likes Elena, he enjoys being with her, and his actions upon their first meet rang very true to me
( ... )
Agreed with you about Klaus. I thought he would at least be dessicated for a while, but it seems like they wanted to bring him back straight away.
I didn't like the flashback Damon scene. It was just completely weird to me how he instantly accepted that Elena was not Katherine, and right from that the entire tone felt off.

I get that. I think it made sense to me because I figured he reminded himself that it couldn't be Katherine because she was in the tomb, plus this girl in front of him is acting nothing like Katherine would.
Katherine wasn't in the tomb though. I know Damon doesn't know that, but if you had to pick an option between 'Katherine must have escaped from the tomb' and 'this girl must be someone who looks exactly like Katherine'... which is more likely?
Yeah, I just meant from Damon's perspective she was in the tomb.
I totally get what you're saying, but the scene just works for me somehow. Like, Damon just instinctively knew after a moment that this fresh innocent girl couldn't be Katherine? And that after the few seconds we saw of him feeling her out, he probably went off and had a proper WTF reaction to seeing Katherine's doppelganger.
Also, TVD just desperately needs a season-long villain that actually gets killed for good for once
Agreed.
- The Damon/Stefan phone call just hits me in all my feelings. I love that they're so at peace with each other right now. These boys and their stoicness. SO SAD.
See this one annoyed me big-time because they've been together (well, at least around) for 160-70 years, they're finally getting back to a better place, they both believe they are GONE and will never see each other again ... and all they can talk about is a girl?! Really? I wanted some D/S bonding here, not more Elena talk.
God, the phone call between Damon and Elena. Just, ugh, they're so tragic and she is so in love with him, but Stefan, despite it all, is still her safe place, she's still in love with him, and if Elena's anything, she's loyal and a fixer.
I can't that she's still in love with him. Loves him? Yes. But not in love. I just, yeah, no.
Even though she's in love with him, even though they've gotten incredibly close, even though she sees who he really
( ... )
Elena needs to have one good rip-roaring yell at him
I REALLY want this to happen, especially because Elena deserves to have a good melt down just in general, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Although, the fact that she'll be a vampire and her emotions will be all over the place might finally give us what we want in the yell-at-Stefan department.
Totally, we saw a Damon like this as early as episode 3 of season 01 ... with Elena.

EXACTLY. That's one of the things I love about them, the friendship aspect of their relationship. They just LIKE each other.
I would like it to service the story.
That's the key for me too.
