Written on plain but fine paper in a flowery script. The wax bears the seal of the County of Aventia. The paper bears the seals of Duchy of Paloma and Aventia
Rose writes a letter to her majordomo.
Baroness Lucetta diCarlo
Solinus House
Verazzo, Aventia
Dear Lucetta,
I trust that this finds you well and that the situation with your distaff relatives has been resolved. If it hasn't, do let me know.
A few items of business and then some personal notes:
1. Have the winter home cleaned and prepared for guests.
2. Send the latest yield reports from the vineyards with your reply to this letter.
3. Inventory the volumes in the villa's library. All of them. Hire students for this task if you must but screen them before you let them cross my threshold. We do not want a repeat of the Lupercal incident.
4. Negotiate with Father's people for the return of the marble bust of Grandfather along with his ashes. Explain to them that these items will reside in Aventia as that is his birthplace.
5. Reserve a room for two at the usual place in Cermalo for Carnivàle.
On to the personal:
What news of the fever? Has it spread beyond the cities, yet?
I had dinner with your son the other night. His letter to you should be bundled with this one as I encouraged him to write. Ciaran is finding his way in Amber as well as can be expecetd and, in some senses, far better. I saw no need to bring up the matter you mentioned in your latest letter to me. Besides, I suspect he will discover it on his own. On a related note, we discussed the possibility of future romantic prospects for him. I shall, of course, keep you apprised.
My betrothal continues to be the best part of my life. My fiance is something of an island in the midst of rough seas. He is wonderful, Lucetta, and his family consists of brave, capable people who honor me by letting me join them. Should the subject come up, assure Father that Addison comes from a long line of duelists.
Give my regards to your uncle,
Rosamunde
