I lied. We've had two sunny days and the spring beauties are out. Soon I'll have a very, very short wildflower meadow in my front lawn. (Dad would never mow till the spring beauties were done.)

When did the deer start appearing? I don't remember ever seeing any when we were growing up. OTOH, could be the dogs scared them off...

Yes, there's deer, both in the woods and up through otehr parts of the neighborhood! There are often some resting in the very back of my yard, especially in the morning. And once in awhile there are foxes.

I put it down to a number of things:

- Dogs no longer roam freely.
- People only rarely enter the woods.
- They've cut down and developed large areas of land that used to be wooded (like behind the hospital).

(That was not a Dad kind of list)

Ha! But, yeah you're right, Dad used to write long letters about the garden. (I don't have tomatoes or other vegetables, so there will be no reports on that front).

Maybe I can figure a way to include absurdist snippets, like he used to put on the back of the envelope.
