Well. so what is it? It's basically a virtual world that is created solely by its users. You create a character and can customize it, much like The Sims. It can be social, plenty of people use it to meet people (like the dude in the article you read). There are games you can play. There are tons and tons of places to explore. But the best part about it is that it has its own, functioning economy. You can create anything you want in the game and sell it to other residents. You can then convert your virtual money for real money. Some people actually make their living on it. Personally, I create virtual clothing and sell it. It's fun, and makes me a decent amount of spending cash.
I am actually working on a blog directed towards new users that have no idea what to do in the game. It can be overwhelming at first.
