Wanted: Home Sweet Home

We are trying to buy a house. This is exhausting and supremely stressful. We have put in a total of six offers to date: four were rejected, one is hanging out at the bank with one other competing offer that's been there since March so who knows when we'll hear anything, and another we bid on last night that things are looking more hopeful for.

If it wouldn't be too scarring for Altodescant, there are a few places in my parent's neighborhood for sale. It would probably be a bad commute, but it's within walking distance to elementary & middle school, ice cream, video store, grocery...

Ha, well, at least you know the school system is unnaturally good. Not that you may stay there your entire lives, but still.

Also, if we come visit you, Ben won't really need directions. :-D

We definitely sacrificed #3 and a bit of #1 with our house. We got the first house we bid on (which was good, because otherwise we'd have had to deal with buying from several hundred miles away), but we did that by offering their full asking price. We did require that they throw all appliances in with the deal, but they got the better end of the bargain. Bargaining over the price though probably wouldn't have gotten us that much off, based on the prices of other homes around here, and we might have lost the bid in the process because we were looking during a seller's market (2005).

We also lost out a bit on location because it would be nice to be closer to campus, but it would have taken a lot of looking to find one we could afford that was much closer. See previous comment on long-distance home buying and its suckage.

At any rate, you'll find something that works out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
