Why did we ever declare a war?
It seems your intentions are brave.
Most wars, I fear, aren't worth fighting for,
And the one we're in now might seem the same.
The motives of war are always unclear
To those who rely on plain sight,
And the dissent to which these people adhere
Is certainly not always right.
No one predicts such sad happenstance;
One must complete what they begin.
Without us, the Iraqis would have had no chance,
For their people, alone, could not win.

You ask me now, "When will it be o'er?"
I say to you, I do not know,
But I know that when we've withdrawn from this war,
They'll be better off than before.
That's what we all hope comes from this war.
