She had thought for a very long moment that she really had gone mad, there hadn't been anything nearby mere moments before. And then everything had changed and was so terrible and frightening. She had never ever seen a thing like...
Alice had began to run, to find someone in the dark, to get away from the horrible smell and all the blood that she couldn't seem to see anything but. She slipped, tripping on the wet floor in her haste to get away, but didn't let it make her stop. She had to find Constantine or Mr. Edgeworth or someone. She had lost Hisoka in the crowd, (The dark had not helped in the least, making the figures indistinguishable and all the noise from everyone at once being plunged into the same horror caused her voice to sound small and thin among the many, as lost in the crowd as she was.) and feared when she could hear so many of the grown ups sounding afraid again that she would not be able to find who she was looking for.
She made her way mostly down the hall, trying to reach anyone, find anyone when she tripped once again, her feet flying out from under her. Alice, at that moment, very much feared being on the ground, for it seemed like the worst possible place to be. But when she once again tried to stand, her knee (which had not hurt until that very moment she thought, for she certainly thought she would know if she had hurt herself when she had fallen) began to hurt quite badly and so she remained as she had been, on the floor. Though she backed herself very far against the wall so no one might step upon her.
So that was how Alice found herself, feeling very small and so very frightened, her head on her knees and her arms curled around her legs. She stayed that way for what seemed like such a very long time, not hearing a thing clearly enough to respond.
"Hi there!" said a voice.
Alice looked up, seeing a little girl standing over her. She looked very much like she might be her sister, or the sister of her sister. (Which, she thought, was one and the same thing, but she wasn't certain and thought to ask Mr. Edgeworth much later.)
"Hello." Alice said, quietly, her voice much more timid than she had expected it when she tried to speak.
"What are you doing down there?" said the girl.
"I can't find anyone, and I don't know at all where I am, and I can't find Constantine or Mr. Edgeworth or Hisoka or anyone at all! I can't hear them anymore either!" said Alice.
"You're looking for Constantine too?" said the girl, sitting down in front of her on crossed legs.
"Yes, he's my friend, and I was trying to find him, but-"
"I can help you! I'm looking for him, and I think if we look together, we might have a much better chance!" Said the girl, cutting Alice off (which she found quite rude but found it no reason to complain considering that she was Constantine's friend as well) and smiling brightly.
"Then we might both be able to find him, and then he can help us out of this awful place." Alice agreed.
"Let's get started then!" The girl continued to smile and got up, holding out her hand to help Alice up.
"You know," Alice said once she stood, suddenly realizing she did not recognize the girl's voice. "I'm afraid I don't know your name. I'm Alice." She offered, still holding the girl's hand as they began to walk.
"I'm Astra!" The other blond girl, Astra, said, leading Alice along into the dark hallway.
