My Entourage

I love the show Entourage on HBO. So I put out a call on Twitter and Facebook for people who wanted follow me around with no real goals. I can be the cash cow and in return, I can have people who will keep me company and do things for me…great life right? Well, I got some takers, friends and family, but it got me thinking.

First, I don’t really ( Read more... )

I think it's because writer's connect with their readers through gauze. The book is the connection. Rock stars make eye contact. It's direct and that directness skyrockets an interest in them that goes beyond their creation into their personal life. Rock stars also tend to write about themselves directly whereas our characters are part of us, but they're not *us* so if you learn about a writer it's a lot different than reading their book. If you read an interview with a rock star, you get more of a direct connection of 'oh so he wrote that song when he broke up with so and so and then she wrote this song to get back at him' or whatever.

I've heard some book signings can get pretty crazy though... Tad Williams mentioned he had a horror writer friend whose fan brought him a gift of entrails o_O GROSS!

I think it's an interesting question though.... I wanted to be a rock star long before I ever thought about being a writer ;)

I guess what I was getting at was, what would be our version of a rock star? J K Rowling, Stephen King, Stephanie Meyers? I think for sure if Rowling allowed it, people would invade her privacy. I guess the closest writers will come to rock star status is when we are hounded by our readers to put out another book.

The only writers lately that I think people geek out over is probably the lady who wrote Twilight. (sorry her name escapes me, I didn't read that series. :x ) And possibly J.K. Rowling? But it's not to that point where people are fainting, but where they're screaming questions and sending fanmail and probably even hate mail.

But I LOVE Entourage! One of my favorite tv shows. And I always think that me and my roommates are going to end up like them. How, I don't know, since the one who I think would get there is an aspiring author too. If it happens, I'll let you know how it all went down.
