Give the dog a frikkin' heir!

So, if you read my last post you'd know that my parents were considering "pimping" my dog.

Basically, I got into this wonderful argument with them both over this whole issue. I simply told my dad (after finishing my shouting-match with my mom) that this goes against my moral beliefs and way too many ethical issues. My dad's rebuttal? "Ethics don't apply to animals."

I seriously sat down at that point and just stared at him. Especially from that point it was like arguing with a stranger. The last few weeks, my parents have become more and more unfamiliar to me- totally to the point where I feel very little for them. Cold, I know.

Just that one statement made me so angry and sad at the same time. I mean, ethics totally don't apply to animals, do they? Like chickens in battery runs where their sole (pun intended) purpose is to churn out eggs for breakfast all whilst living in an enclosure where they literally cannot move. Descartes said that animals don't have souls, meaning that we can torture them. So, I guess removing my dog's testicles is just a convenience? Something to do on life's great check-list? So just a few weeks ago, they wanted to sterilise him... and now they want him to reproduce? WTF!?

Heck, if animals don't have souls (as one could argue from my dad's statement that ethics do not apply to them), how can we be sure that humans actually have souls? How can we be sure we exist if we're just basing ourselves on a intangible "thing"?

Great. Just perfect. And my dad sits there saying "Dis 'n kompliment. Dis 'n kompliment," ("It's a compliment, it's a compliment.") Uhm, how? The vet entered the breed into his database and gave the woman a list of suitable candidates. I mean, some men like women with blonde hair and big breasts... so, that's what they ask for at a brothel!

My dad's other argument is that Sherlock "needs to extend himself". Like it's some given right (which, by the way, only those with souls- the ones to which ethics would apply- are given.) to reproduce. Yes, it's available to all... but those that believe everyone should have children (what? For the novelty of it?!) should most definitely never reproduce. Yes, I did just say that by that basis, my parents should never have had me- and if I give in to half the lunacy that they command, I'll firmly agree to my euthansia.

I'm rambling and calming down, so my argument is losing steam. I know it's quite something to get worked-up over... but I'm reading more into my parents not understanding me and my views. If they can't see why I personally believe this, how can I realistically expect to keep them in my life? Well, I don't quite. Currently I just need their finacial support. I'll see about the rest later.

All through this though, I have one great support- the one who says "I love you just the way you are and wouldn't change a thing." That makes me smile. *blushes and gigles*
