Family

All he does is smile and say, "Mother!" He hugs her around the middle- this thin, fragile woman with golden hair and a lonely heart.

"...Ys?" she asks, as if she can't believe. Seeking someone else; this body doesn't have a name.

Sharem pulls back and stares into his eyes; he's smiling still, and answers, "Yes. You're my mom, right?"

She returns his smile and nods. It was decided; he was hers, she was his, and his father would suffer for what he had done.

Actors on a well lit stage, going through the motions of a play unrehearsed. What a way to start a life; what a time this would be. He'd never had a woman so willing to play 'mom'.

Hidden

Inside of him, there is everyone he has ever been; memories and presence together and apart. Not all of them clamer against the chains of their places to break free and be.

Not a lonely little boy named Ys.

Ys has never had a friend; he is afraid of people. He is a monster, possessed by one even darker than himself. He dreams of blood and a woman's tears, the bitter taste of cigarettes and his father's eyes, wide in horror.

There is nothing for Ys in the world beyond this 'Yuca'.

People want him. People want Ys and when Yuca stops thinking and is smiling and responds as if he is Ys...

It is better if he forgets that he ever existed as something separate.

I don't want to exist.

And they come to feel the same.
