Britpick question!

I've had the worst cold for the past three weeks. Congestion, coughing, sinus pain, sleeplessness. Utter misery. You can't take anything useful during pregnancy, but I made up for it by sleeping as much as possible and letting my husband deal with everything. It's good for him.

Don't Blink is back in production! I have roughly two months to ( Read more... )

Feel better soon, bb.

As for snacks... it depends on a hell of a lot of things, from personal taste to type of event etc. I've seen crisps in bowls, although never crisps with dip (doritos with dip is a yes, though). My parents will sometimes have peanuts and random things like cheese puffs (which... are not what I get when I google image "cheese puffs" and are more sort of a crispy kinda shell with cheese inside) but nothing is quintessentially British.

Not really pretzels, though. XD

I LOVE those cheese puff things! I also adore the cheese puffs we have here in the States, too. Cheese is a Good Thing.

hello *waves*

if you're thinking about during 'Don't Blink' you'd be thinking more along the lines of simple sandwiches and salad, maybe some nuts, cheese and crackers

Ritz crackers; cheese cubes with (shudder) pineapple on cocktail sticks or with cocktail onions on cocktail sticks. Celery filled with cream cheese; peanuts; plain crisps. Vol au vents filled with chicken/ham/mushrooms in white sauce. Sausage rolls or cocktail sausages. Sandwiches - ham or cheese or egg mayonnaise. Fruit salad. Blancmange or jelly or trifle. As the years went on, something "exotic" like Black Forest Gateau, but I can't remember whether we had that in 1969.

These are just a few of the delights I remember from the stunning parties I attended as a child. I was 7 in 1969 so I don't remember much, but party foods didn't change hugely during the early seventies, which I remember rather more clearly.

Food for guests tended to be safe and predictable. My mother loved brie and olives, but she had enough sense never to admit as much to the neighbours. Good Lord! She might just as well have eaten garlic and smothered everything in sauce like some Johnny Foreigner...

You are awesome! I'm realizing the current occasion won't be very fancy, but I'm sure later ones will be.

Nachos (usually called Doritos) and dips go down pretty well. And we aren't averse to the odd tube of Pringles.

Now you've made me hungry, damn it....

I've been wanting nacho cheese Doritos for days, but they always make me sick. I may have some anyway. :)
