last evening we went to a lativan guy's place for his kid's birthday party and knowing I am a vegetarian he had 8 vege items and just oe chicken item on the menu. I felt very touched. As for the different cultures cooking the same stuff differently, here is a nice conversation that had happened to me some time ago.
I was in France as a cultural exchange student and living with a French family with kids my age. Still struggling to find my French, over dinner once, I had looked at Sylvie and asked, "How do you say Ketchup in French?"
Without batting an eyelid, she said "You don't." They will have tomoato sauce but they will die before they call it ketchup.
