I don't think Hedland could actually support/provide the entire workforce needed up there, lol. And I like fifo, that's how my dad works.

My Dad has worked FIFO for years... most mining towns are shit holes. Alot of the mining staff tend to be young blokes who drink alot and love hookers... look at Kalgoorlie. Without FIFO towns like Hedland would be smaller without FIFO which like Daniel said may exacerbate the problem but I think the same problems would be proportionately as bad... "The ditchies" they did indeed visit and show footage which was really fascinating, but nothing out of the ordinary. Meekatharra had an area my Dad and his mining buddies called "Rainbow city" Which was a bunch of tin sheets made into "shelter" that had different coloured roofes so that intoxicated locals could tell which was "theirs". Its sad really.

Hahaha Did you know Hedland employed (employs?) FIFO prostitutes? A comedian once joked that it would be cheaper and easier to hire a pro for the night and kick them out, rather than book a room at the caravan park. They weren't far from the truth.

Karratha is theoretically not much different than Hedland but their perception of their town seems to be a lot healthier. I wonder what the X-factor is?
